Real-time Black Lists (RBLs)

What is an RBL?

RBL in short stands for "Real-time black list" and is a list of IP addresses and/or network ranges that have been added to a list providers list due to spam complaints.  How these IP addresses are added really depends on the list provider.

How many RBL's are there?

Hundreds possibly.

What RBL's do SingleEdge mail servers check?

In order:
  • bl.spamcop.net
  • spamsources.fabel.dk
  • list.dsbl.org
  • cbl.abuseat.org
  • sbl-xbl.spamhaus.org
Does SingleEdge maintain any RBL's it uses?

NO!

What if my IP address gets listed on an RBL?

You will need to contact the black list in question and follow their directions to remove your IP address from their list.

How do I check to see if my IP address is on an RBL?

A quick way to find your IP address is by checking sites like:
Once you have obtained your IP address, goto a multi-rbl checking website and put your IP address to the test.  Multi-rbl checking will allow you to check many different RBL sites from one place, otherwise you will need to look at each of them individually.
If you find that your IP address is listed on a public blacklist then you may not be able to connect to the SingleEdge shared mail servers from your current network connection, at least not on TCP port 25, you should be able to connect via TCP port 80 or use the web mail interface.

Can SingleEdge remove my IP address from an RBL?

Use ARIN to find out who owns the IP address in question.  If the IP address is owned by SingleEdge then we will be able to assist you.  If the IP is not owned by SingleEdge then the IP owner will need to help instead.

NOTE: Some ISP's voluntarily put their IP blocks on public black lists as a spam prevention technique.  Some ISP's want all relayed email to go through a dedicated host instead of directly from the client systems.
