Setting Up Mozilla Thunderbird E-mail Client

If you don't already have Mozilla Thunderbird installed, please download and install this wonderful "Free" mail client software from the Mozilla Thunderbird Site.

Let's start off by setting up a new e-mail account in Mozilla Thunderbird.

1. Open up Mozilla Thunderbird
2. Goto TOOLS --> Account Settings

Once you have the Account Settings dialog box in view, Click Add Account

3. Check the Email account radio button then choose Next.

4. Enter your display name and email address.
a. This is what all recipients will see your name as.
b. This needs to be your email account address.
Click Next.

5. Here you decide how and where you get your email.
a. You will need to choose POP3 or IMAP protocols here.
b. Enter in the address of your incoming (POP3 or IMAP) server here.
Click Next.

NOTE:Choosing a POP3 setup here will configure your mail client to pull your mail off the mail server. Choosing IMAP will not pull your mail off. Typically we suggest using POP3 otherwise you will be required to maintain your mailbox regularly as we have implemented mailbox quotas on our mail servers.

6. Enter email account name here.
a. Your email account name is typically your email address.
Click Next.

7. Give your email account in Thunderbird a unique name here.
a. If you have multiple email accounts this is where you can differentiate each one with a unique name.
Click Next.

8. Review then click Finish

9. Now verify your SMTP (outgoing mail) settings.
a. This will be set to the same server address as your incoming mail server by default.
b. This is the username that will be used during the SMTP authentication process.

NOTE: Both SingleEdge mail servers `mail2.singleedge.com` & `tmda.singleedge.com` require SMTP authentication before mail is allowed to relay (from external networks) through either server. If you are having problems sending outbound email using Mozilla Thunderbird and receive an email bounce with an error like this:

Remote host said: 553 sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts (#5.7.1)

Then either your Mozilla Thunderbird mail client is configured incorrectly or your servers (here at SingleEdge) have not been setup by SingleEdge Superior Support to allow mail relaying through either of our SMTP servers. Please review your mail account settings and test before calling support.

 Business Continuity

Did you know, 80% of business that do not have a business continuity plan in place when disaster strikes are out of business within 2 to 3 years after the disaster. (Source - Dept Homeland Security)
