Howto - Setup Microsoft Outlook Express Outbound (SMTP) Authentication

These instructions assume you already have an email account setup in Outlook Express.

Both SingleEdge mail servers `mail2.singleedge.com` & `tmda.singleedge.com` require SMTP authentication before mail is allowed to relay (from external networks) through either servers. If you are having problems sending outbound email using Microsoft Outlook and receive an email bounce with an error like this:

Remote host said: 553 sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts (#5.7.1)

Then either your Microsoft Outlook mail client is configured incorrectly or your servers (here at SingleEdge) have not been setup by SingleEdge Superior Support to allow mail relaying through either of our SMTP servers. Follow these steps to successfully relay mail through either of our servers externally.

1. Open up Microsoft Outlook Express.
2. Goto TOOLS --> Accounts.

3. You should now see the Internet Accounts dialog box.
4. Select your mail account and click the Properties button.

5. Verify that your Display Name and Email address are correct on the General tab of your mail account properites dialog box.
6. Click the Servers tab on the Properties dialog box.

7. Verify that you have the correct settings.
a. Incoming mail (POP3) = mail.yourdomain.tld (.tld stands for Top Level Domain; like .com .net .org .biz etc...)
b. Outgoing mail (SMTP) = mail.yourdomain.tld (.tld stands for Top Level Domain; like .com .net .org .biz etc...)
c. Account name = Your email account on the server (must be accountname@domain to work)
d. Password = The password that was created on the qmail admin page (qmail toaster.admin)
8. Check the "My server requires authentication" check box
(The settings button will let you change your username etc... by default this will use the same user account settings as your incoming server)
9. Click OK

10. Click Close.

After finishing the wizard, try and send a test email out. If you are still having problems, try restarting your Outlook Express or even your computer before asking for support.

 Power is King

According to Gartner, 50% of current data centers will be obsolete by 2008 due to insufficient power and cooling capacity to meet the demands of high-density equipment.

SingleEdge is one of a handful of companies nationwide that can provide power for the forecasted need.
